BDF V walk over Flames Splinters
20 May 2013
BDF V’s women and men basketball teams collected maximum points when they humiliated Flames and Splinters in both categories on Saturday.
In the first game played at BDF Donga camp, BDF V women defeated Splinters 108 baskets against six. BDF's captain, who is also the focal guard for the team, Orapeleng Leagajang said they had it easy against their host because they were weaker both in skill and knowledge of the game.
She said they played fast break approach to the game to make sure that their opponents lost focus, particularly on their defence and it worked to their advantage since they managed to secure many shots at the baskets.
The visiting team won all the four quarters with a margin of 24-0 in the first quarter, 31-2 in the second quarter while in the third and fourth quarter, they beat them 22-2 and 31-2 respectively. Top shooters for BDF, Katlego Mogae and Lesego Moepeng were in their element as they scored 35 and 20 points respectively.
Although the women team had it easy to win their game, the men’s side found themselves faced with a difficult opponent despite having the upper hand. After losing the first quarter by a bigger margin of 16-3, Flames tightened their strings to win the second quarter 9-4, to show their visitors that they could stand up to them.
Playing with their mind set on keeping their first position in the league, BDF V men’s side fought hard to beat Flames and frequently changed their approach to the game by playing a fast attack while also careful of their defence.
Changing their style of play helped them to win the remaining two quarters 11-7 and 19-17 and ended the game with a 50-37 win. ENDS
