Tonota-Francistown road nears completion

District officer for development in Francistown, Mr Boyce Mangole, has told the Francistown City Council (FCC) full meeting that the Tonota-Francistown road was almost complete as all the road markings and signage were done.
Presenting the Urban Development Committee (UDC) report recently, he said the contractor was putting curbstones on the sides of the road, the only work remaining to be done.
Briefing on the progress of the interchange junction project commonly called the spaghetti, Mr Mangole said they were currently constructing routes that will be used to divert traffic.
“Where the need arise, we will use police officers to try to control traffic.
Let us appreciate the challenges brought by these developments and we are open for ideas that will help us to finish on stipulated time,” Mr Mangole said.
He also noted that there were other projects that will be done under the Economic Stimulus Programme, which were at a tender stage while the construction of Gerald Junior Secondary School (JSS) was in progress.Mr Mangole said the expansion of classes in Goldmine and Selolwe JSS were running concurrently to stop outdoor teaching areas, with P55 million reserved for the projects.
A representative from the BOT50 Committee and also the district coordinator of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC) in Francistown Ms Minkie Bokole appreciated all those who took part in the welcoming of the roving torch to Francistown.
She said it was received and celebrated in four wards and the Ward Development Committees spear headed all the proceedings and differed from ward to ward depending on how they wanted their celebration to look like.
“We have activities planned such as branding of the city.
Dust bins will also be branded together with the plastic bags,” she said.
The committee is also planning to host beauty pageants for Mr and Mrs Independence, more especially those who we born in 1966 and the other Mr and Mrs Independence will be open for the public not born in 1966.
For his part, Ipelegeng coordinator Mr Tshepho Andina reported that 82 projects will be implemented for 2016/2017 financial year, in which four of them will be spill overs.
He said labour intensive projects have already kick-started and there is also completion of those that were left behind in 2015/2016. Ends
