Love compassion drives nursing

29 May 2016

Botswana Retired Nurses Society (BORNUS) Palapye branch chairperson, Ms Baboni Maruapula has urged retired nurses to continue showing compassion and love towards members of their respective communities.

Ms Baboni said this during the society’s recent visit to Ms Theresa Dipholo, an elderly retired nurse who served since 1983.

Ms Baboni said retired nurses were also part of society therefore deserved to be given love and support and thus their duty to visit retired nurses to give them love.

“Love heals the soul and can improve the health of a patient. Again, the society also goes an extra mile to pay a visit to members of the community who are not well and give nurses on duty medical reports of such patients,” she added.

BORNUS is non-governmental and non-profit making organisation established in 1999 with only seven members but the number had since increased to 22.

The society has diverse background in the nursing field and vast experience after having worked in different facilities of nursing institutions as well as international organisations.

On one hand, Ms Dipholo said nursing was not about money but love, compassion, and dedication to the nation.

Thus, she encouraged other nurses to dedicate themselves to helping patients with Botho and show love and compassion towards them.

She said God would reward them for their love and kindness. She thanked BORNUS for spending the day with her, adding it showed that indeed she played a big role in bringing about a healthy and productive nation.

Ms Dipholo worked in various places such as Serowe, Pilikwe, Shoshong and Palapye and had also worked for home based care. Ends
