Misuse of humanitarian items worry kgosi

Kgosi Gunny Moses of Monarch Customary Court in Francistown says he is concerned by the way some beneficiaries misuse humanitarian items they get from benefactors.
Kgosi Moses said this on Wednesday during Bolux Group’s donation of food hampers worth over P50 000 to 406 disadvantaged individuals in Francistown West.
He said some beneficiaries seemed not to appreciate the donations offered considering their tendency to easily give away the items donated to them.
“It is disheartening that some beneficiaries fail to make use of the items they receive such as food stuff or clothing, for the purpose they are intended for,” the traditional leader criticized.
He said some had the bad habit of exchanging their compassionately given items for alcoholic drinks only for them to remain empty handed again.
“Such habits will only serve as a hindrance to the progresses being made towards dealing with poverty,” he said, adding that the habit could also discourage the good Samaritans from extending their helping hand.
The kgosi also said any form of donation given out should be seen as a gesture towards improving the livelihoods of the disadvantaged members of society.
Head of corporate affairs from Bolux Group, Mr Nkosi Mwaba explained that as part of their corporate social responsibility (CRS), the company felt obliged to give back to the communities they served.
Mr Mwaba said in most cases, they targeted disadvantaged members of society not under government’s social safety net.
He further said although they had been engaged in CRS activities for quite some time, it was their first break to host a donation of such a magnitude in the North.
“We have helped several groups in the south with different donations and we are also working closely with a certain youth soccer group.
This time we felt the need to spread our wings to assist people in the north and at the same time appreciate the incredible support they give to us by purchasing our products,” he said. ENDS
