Self allocations concern Ngwaketse land board
25 May 2016
The chairperson of Ngwaketse Land board Mr Mosimanegape Mophuting says land is of interest to all sections of society and an applicant shall be entitled to be allocated one residential plot in Ngwaketse Tribal Territory.
Mr Mophuting was officially opening Ngwaketse Land board meeting in Kanye on Tuesday.
He said the board is to guide decision making and ensure uniformity, consistency, predictability and fairness in land management.
No person/married couple may be allocated a plot for the second time if they have relinquished their earlier rights except where they had reverted their earlier plot to the land board.
Mr Mophuting said they enhanced transparency in procedures related to land matters in communal areas, to benefit the public by providing readily available reference material.
The chairperson further said the issue of self-allocation was a concern and they should monitor the situation and fight against it.
He said the land registration was going at a snail pace appealing to board members to disseminate information rapidly to members of the community because it will be stopped in Southern district and those who will be left out will be charged penalties.
Mr Mophuthing said Economic Stimulus Programme projects were going well at Mheelo ward in Kanye.
He said internal roads which were constructed were at 40 per cent but the contractor there was facing challenges of water shortage, rocks, machinery breakdown and some properties on the way saying layout plan passed through some plots.
He also said the allocation of boreholes in their jurisdiction had stopped even though some applications were still pending.
For his part the deputy land board secretary Mr Thabo Tshipinare said there was a team going around the country to see whether the land boards were taking the issues self allocation of plots seriously. ENDS
