Kopong first ever annual charity football tournament is to be held on May 28 at Kopong’s No Mathata football grounds.
The organiser of the event, Tshepo Ronkwane says four teams; Sprint Couriers of Gaborone Block 3, Dintorokong FC from Mmopane Block 1, Lister City of Kopong and the host, No Mathata FC, will play against one another in the one-day tourney.
The objective of the tournament, according to Ronkwane, is to raise funds to buy winter school uniform and toiletries for orphans and needy students at Molefe, Letsholo, Mmatseta and Gakuto primary schools.
“We chose to buy winter clothes for both orphans and needy students at the afore-mentioned schools as a way of restoring students’ dignity and encouraging them,” said Ronkwane
The tournament, he further noted, would provide a platform for players to interact and keep fit, network and entertain fans.
While only male teams will participate in the tournament, Ronkwane indicated that women have been roped in as support personnel for participating teams. He said ladies teams would be brought in next year.
“We also believe that this tournament presents organisations with a golden opportunity to engage in corporate social responsibility by investing in a youth pioneered projects,” he further said.
Ronkwane said the tournament would be played on a knockout system and that the winner would walk away with a trophy, a football kit and gold medals while the runner-ups and third placed team would get silver and bronze medals respectively as well as a football kit each.
Dj Gosso Gosso and MC Tebogo Seganka Monnaatsie will also entertain spectators at the event, which is sponsored by Yoli Clothing Company from Gaborone and Sprint Couriers.
