Minister urges residents to register birth deaths

Sankoyo and Shorobe residents in the North West District have been encouraged to treat births and deaths registry with vitality.
Addressing residents of the two villages on Monday , labour and home affairs minister, Mr Edwin Batshu said birth and deaths registry were vital since they informed the developments of the country.
The birth registry, he said helped government plans in terms of the capacity of infrastructural development to put in place such as schools.
The death registry, on the other hand he said helped the government to establish the common cause of deaths therefore helps in terms of health interventions to implement.
However, lack of roads was the common concern from Sankoyo residents as they pleaded with the minister to take their concerns to the relevant ministry as they said lack of roads and electricity had stalled developments in their village.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Gokgathaang Moalosi said Sankoyo road was a busy and crucial road as a transit for tourists visiting Chobe and Moremi game reserves respectively.
However, Kgosi Moalosi said the bad state of the road was a threat to motorists as some vehicles collided due to the dusty terrain.
In relation to electricity, Kgosi Moalosi said Sankoyo people especially youth have relocated to Maun due to lack of electricity in their village.
A resident, Jimmy Ntema reiterated the issue of lack of roads as the biggest challenge.
Another resident, Mr Nkokelang Kasale complained that some companies that failed to comply with labour issues rendered many Sankoyo youth unemployed.
Mr Kasale blamed the labour office for not intervening in such matters.
Meanwhile, Kgosi Molatedi Dingalo of Shorobe village has thanked minister Batshu for his visit. Kgosi Dingalo implored that issues of labour relations for herd boys and house helpers be looked into.
He said the current situation was unfavourable since the employers were not covered in cases of malpractice by the employees.
Some Shorobe residents complained about elephant destruction of their farms. Mr Barona Chaba said their ploughing efforts were in vain due to elephants.
In his closing remarks, minister Batshu advised people of the two villages to learn to have stipulated agreement when they hire house helpers or herdboys.
He said the hiring process should be in a formal set up such as at the kgotla in front of witnesses to avoid loss of property. ENDS
