Assistant Minister for Education and Skills Development Mr Moiseraele Goya has appreciated a donation of computers and the decision of Ovaherero traditional authority to adopt Frederick Maharero Primary School.

Speaking during the 40th anniversary celebration of this school in Mahalapye recently, Mr Goya said as the ministry of education, they were ready to partner with Ovaherero traditional authority in developing Frederick Maharero Primary School.

Mr Goya said the donation of 10 computers and two printers would bring on board teachers, learners and the ancillary staff to collectively address issues of information and technology at all levels in the school situation.

“Frederick Maharero Primary School will make use of the resources at their disposal especially during this era of information technology and eradicate ICT illiteracy,’’ he said.

He said Botswana was on a mission of trying to make students and Batswana at large to be aware of the importance of information technology and ways of benefiting from it, so these computers would help in that regard.

He said the motivation of the pupils was very crucial in the school set up and the teachers had to wisely guide, counsel and support their students in order for them to produce best results.

Paramount Chief, Advocate Vikuii Rukoro of Ovaherero of Namibia said they have decided to support this school that had been named after one of the most celebrated Maharero heroes through the government’s adopt a school initiative.

Advocate Rukoro said that even though this initiative was aiming at improving the school programme and curriculum and to create a sense of personal relationship between schools and business entities, he felt that he should take it to another level of contributing towards developing another African child.

“I believe our educational partnership with Frederick Maharero Primary School will go a long way in assisting this country to live its dream of an educated and informed nation’’ he said.

He also said in future he is intending to donate some classrooms to close the educational gaps that exist in the school where possible.

High Commissioner of Namibia to Botswana Mr Mbapeau Muvangua said Botswana had played a big role in accommodating Namibians decently during the years of unrest in their country.

Mr Managua said even today Frederick Maharero Primary was still playing   a role in bringing these two nations together. ENDS
