24 May 2016
Stanbic bank has opened a new branch in Mogoditshane.
For the past four years, the bank has been operating from a small cabin space situated along the Molepolole /Gaborone high way.
Speaking during launch of the branch situated at Bodiba mall in Mogoditshane, head of customer channels Mr Calistas Chijoro, said the response from the Mogoditshane community had been phenomenal, hence deciding to expand the branch to offer a full array of services.
He further explained that from an economic point of view it was appropriate to expand the branch in anticipation of future development in the area. It is for that reason that the new branch is situated at a place that will in the near future become the Central Business District for Mogoditshane .
Also there will be near to the envisioned taxi rank to service huge traffic of commuters together with their already existing market.
Mr Chijoro indicated that since the digital era has led to banking halls becoming smaller because of technology at the customer’s convenience the branch will also offer modern technology such as internet banking, 24 hour ATM as well as other services that one would find in their other major branches. The old ATM will be left at the old site.
Following the closure of Molepolole branch earlier this year, Mr Chijoro said another ATM would be erected at Molepolole to make them two.
Also, the village would be among the first to have an ATM that could process cash deposits.
He explained that they were at an advance stage of sourcing the technology to do deposits in their ATMs.
For his part, MP for Mogoditshane Mr Sedirwa Kgoroba said they welcomed the development because the bank had brought its services to the people. He also said it would help create employment opportunities for Mogoditshane residents.
The MP nevertheless implored the bank through its corporate social responsibility to contribute to existing programmes for the community such as sports development and tutorial programmes.
He said they were proud of development in Mogoditshane, for instance, some of the food franchises have already set up saying their desire is to have everything that is in Gaborone because Mogoditshane is a “city within a city,” boasting a large population of about 70 000.
Kgosi Alfred Dihutso of Mogoditshane thanked the bank for having considered his village to do business. He highlighted that one of the biggest challenges businesses are facing in Mogoditshane is land scarcity which hinders a lot of development in the area. ENDS
