22 May 2016

In a swift move to arrest controversy that has besieged local football, Botswana Football Association (BFA) has approved management structure that will handle Botswana Premier League day to day activities.

Addressing a press conference on May 19, BFA president Tebogo Sebego said they had approved a management structure, which was proposed by BPL board.

Sebego said both BFA and BPL had released Mojaboswa Maje to BPL management structure as head of the secretariat until further notice.

He further said a delegation was expected from FIFA to implement Connect System, a system that would improve the registration of players and clubs in the country.

Sebego was confident that the system would also assist in the maintenance of an updated database, which could help the association to improve the registration system and information management.

He, however said the problem of player’s registration was not peculiar to Botswana, but was a challenge all over the world, particularly in Africa given that there was problem with movement of players.

Recently, there was confusion surrounding protests and docking of points from Township Rollers.

However, Sebego said the association regretted the unfortunate turn out of events that had been unfolding within BPL and their structures.

The developments, he said were not good for football, which had been showing positive signs of growth.

He said BFA assured all stakeholders that they were doing all they could to find remedy to the problem,.

Also, he said they would find a long term plan that would not shame the game.

“To this end we apologise to all football stakeholders, particularly our supporters who have been very supportive and coming in large numbers to most of the games, even when football was on a sick bed,” he said. ENDS
