Khama condemns love affairs with students

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has appealed to Batswana to discipline themselves and avoid the behaviour that could ruin career of the girl child.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting in Seolwane yesterday, President Khama said it was unacceptable for elderly people to be engaged in love affairs with students.
This kind of behaviour was not tolerated, he said.President Khama said this when reacting to allegations that a councillor in Sebina had impregnated a student.
However, the President said the Sebina case was not the only one, adding that there were several cases where some teachers or villagers engaged in love affairs with students.
He said the nation should not only condemn the behavior of the councillor in Sebina but all the men who engaged in sexual relationships with the girl child should be condemned.
President Khama urged men who indulged in the love affairs with the girl child to stop the habit because it was intolerable and could destroy the good name of Batswana.
In other issues, the President donated a chair to Kgosi Mhaladi Mhaladi of Seolwane, a football kit and balls to a football team, 30 chairs for Seolwane kgotla and blankets for the elderly and underprivileged people in the village.
Earlier on, the Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Tumelo Othasitse, requested government to consider increasing the number of Ipelegeng beneficiaries in the village other than increasing their salaries.
He said most of the residents in the village sustained their livelihoods through programme.
Mr Othasitse requested that VDC members be given their wages at the post office because they had to travel to Palapye every month to get their wages.
He also raised a concern about shortage of transport for Seolwane kgotla. He appealed to government to consider renovating the road in his village.
In response, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo, said when the tender for Sefhophe/ Martins drift road was awarded, the intention was to also look at the state of the roads that turned to different villages but the budget did not allow.
On the issue of the prize money for constituency tournaments, The Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture Mr Thapelo Olopeng said he had realised that there were concerns about delay in the prize money for constituency tournaments. He said the issue would be investigated and necessary steps taken. ENDS
