Moeng College needs facelift-school head
17 May 2016
Moeng College school head, Mr Abram Thapedi says his school needs a complete facelift in order to withstand and keep abreast with modern challenges.
Built in 1949, Moeng College has seen its fence collpasing and both wild and domesticated animals roaming the school. Some of these animals reportedly frustrate the school’s efforts in agricultural projects.
Speaking during the Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr Unity Dow’s tour of the school, Mr Thapedi said that his school faced a lot of challenges ranging from frequent sewerage blockages to over subscription of students at girls hostels.
According to the school head, a hostel block, the newest of them all, that occupies 140 students has not been in use since 2008 and resulted in over crowding of students in other hostels. The arrangement is seen as a health concern whilst at the same time depriving learners from catching proper rest. The block is reportedly having some structural defects.
Mr Thapedi also requested that his school be given special dispensation for feeding vote in consideration of his school’s location. His argument was anchored on the grounds that when feeding vote got depleted students could not access supplement food anywhere closer.
The school head also requested for an ambulance since Moeng College has a population more than of some villages. The school has 1319 students, 90 teachers and about 60 non-teaching staff.
These inhabitants are not without challenges, according to the school head. Just like other public servants they too are faced with shortage of accommodation for both teaching and non-teaching staff. About 20 teachers found themselves over staying at the college. ENDS
