New entrants here to stay

17 May 2016

New entrants into Mascom Women’s Volleyball League, Selebi Phikwe Volleyball Club (SVC) are planning to produce stars for national team.

Even though his team, SVC, lost all its games against Mag Stimela of Mahalapye and BDF VI respectively, coach Makgetla Gareanna was an impressed man at his charges’ display.

Speaking in an interview after the game, he said their intention was to help young guns who could break it into established teams like Kutlwano and Mafolofolo to realise their dreams of playing top flight volleyball.  Consequently, Gareanna believes his young lasses could make it into the national team.

Notwithstanding the challenges faced by the Selibe Phikwe greens horns like lack of sponsorship, Gareanna is of the view that his team could compete in top tier women’s league.

“These players deserve a chance because they cannot break it into established teams and hence we felt we could establish a team that would avail opportunities for upcoming youngsters to showcase their mettle,” said Gareanna, adding that SVC was established by teachers in Selebi Phikwe and its peripheries.

He was impressed that together with fellow teachers, they had managed to realise their dream of establishing an entity that could be a force to be reckoned with in the Central District.

Team management and the support base, according to Gareanna, is composed of teachers in the Selebi Phikwe peripheries whose yearning for success is beyond reproach.

Based on weekend results, despite losing all their games, the coach was impressed that his charges displayed a showing beyond his expectations, and that was after they psyched the beginners to keep level headed following their declaration that they grew goose pimples at the prospects of taking on renowned BDF VI and Mag Stimela.

Despite lack of sponsorship, the team looked presentable, something that coach Gareanna was excited with but called on potential sponsors to come forward and rescue the struggling the newly established outfit.

Though positive that his side could cushion the wrath of established campaigners, Gareanna discouraged seasoned competitors from recruiting from his side.

Mag Stimela pumped a rude awakening to SVC by a 3-1 scoreline .

Later, BDF VI heaped miseries on new entrants, thumping them 3-0. BDF came back to send Mag Stimela away with a 3-0 drubbing. ENDS
