Francistown district awards public officers

Francistown East MP, Mr Buti Billy has commended the public servants for their contribution in growing the economy of the country. Giving a keynote address at the Francistown public service celebrations recently, Mr Billy said Botswana has moved from being the poorest country at independence to a middle income country and among the fastest growing economies in the world.
He said the growth in economy is not only a commendable effort on the part of the government of the day but to the public officers as well. Mr Billy said there is no nation that can prosper or survive without its public officers adding that achievements such as the design of roads, schools, office infrastructure and other development projects are numerous.
The MP noted that the government is working hard to develop and address some of the challenges faced by public servants as it appreciates their efforts in making the country what it is now.Tatitown Court president, Kgosi Motlatsi Gafhiwe-Kediseng said public service celebrations is a time of celebrating and appreciating the public servants who have worked tirelessly for the country.
Kgosi Gafhiwe-Kediseng noted that the day’s theme, Living the Public Service Values encourages the public servants to be trustworthy and transparent because with these qualities corruption will be prevented.He said honoring good performers will motivate them and at the same time encourage others to work hard.
He said the government has equipped public servants with different skills and urged those to utilize such to provide quality service.Kgosi said those who are awarded should encourage those who did not to despair but to become the future recipients of the awards.
He reminded everyone that wherever they are they should embrace themselves towards the 50th independence celebrations.
Public Service Day celebrations for 2016 are currently ongoing and are being held in each district and will be followed by then inter-district celebrations which culminate in the National Public Service Week scheduled for June 13-17. This year’s Public Service Day celebrations are also a build up to the major events of the jubelee celebrations.
In Francistown over 240 public officers received the awards in various categories and 40 retired public officers also received the awards in recognition of their contributions in building the city. ENDS
