Chobe United gain first division promotion

Chobe United have been promoted to Debswana First Division North after winning the northern promotional play-offs games in Kasane over the weekend.Chobe won the play offs with five points and a total of three goals scored from the three games played.
They played Boteti-based White Diamonds, Maun-based Maun Terrors and Francistown-based Amakhosi.There were no goals scored in three of the games played between Amakhosi and White Diamonds, Chobe United and Maun Terrors as well as Maun Terrors and Amakhosi thus leaving all the teams at par with one point each.
However, the game between Maun Terrors and White Diamonds finally changed the status quo with Tuelo Mathare of Maun Terrors scoring the first goal of the playoffs on the 37th minute.
The lead was however short-lived as Edwin Osenyegile equalised with a penalty in the 64th minute.Chobe United’s public relations officer, Johane Chenjekwa, said their promotion came at the right time as another Chobe based team Kazungula Young Fighters had just been relegated to the second division.
“This means that there will be representative of the district in the first division,” he noted.Team captain, Thatayaone Sane said they had worked tirelessly to earn their promotion to the first division.
“We therefore plan to maintain our status in the first division to avoid relegation,” he said.Botswana Football Association (BFA) regional football chairperson for Chobe, Dintle Basego, said they had not received any protests or complaints from any of the teams. ENDS
