Tswapong region division one champions, Morupule Wanderers won the eastern block division one play-offs in Mahalapye over the weekend to gain promotion to first division north next season.

Morupule Wanderers beat Mahalapye United 1-0 in their first match played on May 7 before giving Bobonong Stone Breakers a 6-3 drubbing in the same day.  The Palapye side wrapped qualification into first division north by thrashing Mogorosi Young Fighters 2-0 in a match played on Sunday.

Speaking in an interview just after the play-offs, Morupule Wanderers public relations officer Tshepo Bagwasi, said their strategy of coming into the play-offs was to win all matches they were going to play.

He said they prepared vigorously for the play-offs although they finished their league a week before the date for play-offs, adding that they played two friendly matches against Lecheng All Stars and ECCO City Greens in one day to prepare for the play-offs since they knew they would have to play two games in a single day in the play-offs.

Bagwasi said at the beginning of the season, they set a roadmap for the team with a target to get promoted to First Division North at the end of this season and to get promoted into the Premier League in the 2018/2019 season.

He however said they intended to stretch themselves and push to get promoted into the Premier League at the end of next season to mark the team’s 40th anniversary. 

He vowed that they are not in the First Division North to add numbers but to fight to proceed to the elite league.

In other matches played in the promotional play-offs, Bobonong Stone Breakers held Mogorosi Young Fighters to a 1 all draw, Mahalapye United beat Mogorosi Young Fighters 1-0 before walloping Bobonong Stone Breakers 3-0 in their final game. ENDS
