09 May 2016

Bobirwa District Health Management Team (DHMT) and students from Boitekanelo College have donated toiletry to the less privileged students of Matshekge Senior Secondary School in Bobonong.

Speaking at the donation ceremony on May 6, the head of DHMT, Dr Jackson Kaguamba appealed to the community to support the less privileged children with amenities such as toiletry and clothes.

He said if the vulnerable children were neglected, they might be affected academically and psychologically.

Dr Kaguamba said  school was not only meant to shape the future of children but also to mould their character.

He appealed to the public to tackle the issue of teenage pregnancy at the school.

For his part, Matshekge school head, Mr Polite Mabalani said the school had a lot of problems that needed solutions from the public.

Mr Mabalani said the school had a number of vulnerable as well as orphan children who needed to be supported.

He said if these children were recognised, they might feel at home and comfortable.

The deputy school urged parents to support their children while at boarding campus.

Mr Mabalani said in some instances, some children used one pair of shoes for the whole term adding that the shoes got worn out quickly therefore he urged parents to buy more pairs of shoes.

Moreover, Mr Mabalani identified teenage pregnancy as one of the major problems.

He said from the month of January up to April 15, students had officially withdrawn from the school due to pregnancy.

‘’We are appealing for public support to equip our students with necessary informed decisions about their lives as teenage pregnancy is a mammoth task to deal with in our school”, he said.

The deputy school head stressed out that Matshekge absorbed students from all junior secondary school in Bobirwa therefore he said they were striving to accommodate all students who did well at Junior Certificate level.

For her part, Ms Precious Gaatwesepe who is a student at Boitekanelo College, said it was crucial for the public to come up with strategies that would improve the health of vulnerable children at the school.

She noted the spirit of giving as one thing people should learn in life.

DHMT principal health promotion officer, Mr Mompati Marole urged Matshekge students to be intelligent enough to say no to sex.

Mr Marole encouraged students to strive for their future to achieve the goals they want to attain in life. ENDS
