Malaka village has benefitted immensely from services provided by the government, says Permanent Secretary to the President Mr Carter Morupisi.
Welcoming the BOT50 Roving Torch in Malaka village over the weekend, Mr Morupisi said Malaka village fully embraced government services and will continue to benefit immensely from those.
He said through the visionary leadership of Dikgosi, past and current, and structures such as Village Development Committees, the village has grown and will continue to grow.
He commended government and private sector employees who have been with the village since its inception for their loyalty and enormous contribution to the growth of the village.
“I am talking about non-Malaka people who are here on duty but have become one of us and sometimes offer even more heart-warming service than ourselves,” he said.
He said these employees left their own villages to come and work in Malaka and assist in the journey of the village transformation.
“If we work together and little harder we can make Malaka a beacon of excellence and an epitome of success be it in business, education, agriculture and manufacturing, adding that through government programmes such as LIMID, Youth Grant, ESP and many others “we can re-write our success story ourselves.”
He said many years ago there was nothing to show in this village as there was little or no infrastructure, no vibrancy, no business and many others.
He said today the people of Malaka stand proud to have tarred roads, schools, shops, kiosks, farms and most importantly peace and unity in their village.
He also commended the people of Malaka for their immense contribution in developing their own village.
Furthermore he said the 50th Independence Celebration theme of a United and Proud Nation, reminds everybody that despite their cultural and tribal diversity they are one nation and shall remain united for years to come.
He said the theme highlights the achievements made by the country since gaining independence in 1966, adding “we ought to be proud of our success of having emerged from being one of the poorest countries in the world to the blossoming middle income country we are today.
However he urged the people of Malaka not to take for granted the unity, peace and tranquility that reigns in the country today.
He said they should work even harder as a people to protect these attitudes and even enhance them for the benefit of the children and next generations to come. ENDS
