Retired officers receive accolades

Botswana Public Service College (BPSC) executive director, Ms Keba Nyathi, has commended pioneers of the public service for leading and sustaining the socio-economic development of the country.

She was officiating at the North West Public Service Day celebrations in Maun recently.

Ms Nyathi praised the civil service forerunners for running a good race and laying a good foundation thereby catapulting the country to unparalleled success since independence.

She said public servants who remained faithful to the service and made valuable contributions before gracefully passing on the baton to those behind them had carved the right path.

The public service day, she said, was meant to appreciate the individual and collective roles played by public officers in service delivery.

“The district, let alone the public service, is what it is because of all of you and today we honour those who accepted the responsibility of service to humanity and those who contribute to excellence and innovation in public service institutions,” she added.

Furthermore, she said the district celebration served as a build up to the the inter district commemorations that also served as a build up to the national celebrations in June.

Ms Nyathi said the public service day offered public servants time not only to celebrate and be recognised, but also to introspect, reflect and ask themselves what value or difference they were making.

“The day revolves around public service employees, their recognition and appreciation not only, for their performance, but also talent, which is a critical element that is often overlooked,” she said.

Retired public officer, Mr Tlale Setumo, said public servants were had the ability to deliver quality service.

He added that public servants these days spent more time engrossed more in office politics than in serving people; therefore he urged them to work hard toward service delivery. Ends
