The regional manager of Business Botswana, north, Mr Kebaabetswe Bogatsu says it is important for individuals to demonstrate a sense of leadership, compassion, commitment and humility in the delivery of service to the public.

Speaking at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning excellence awards ceremony on Tuesday 26, Mr Bogatsu said public servants need to constantly keep up with the times in order to meet the evolving demands and expectations of the public, and to be able to compete globally.

He encouraged public servants to have a positive mindset in the workplace as that would help them to be productive and improve the country’s competitiveness. 

He added that the success or failure of any government could be attributed to public service performance.

Furthermore, he said civil servants should stand together and work as a team towards achieving the goals of their departments and to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.

Mr Bogatsu congratulated award recipients and encouraged them to continue serving the public selflessly without any interest for personal benefit, and to go the extra mile to assist without any expectation of any return.

One of the long service and good conduct award winners, Ms Gabasimolole Lethoka expressed appreciation for the award, saying she was reaping the fruits of her productivity.

She said working with money could be tempting but that she has survived 28 years of quality service with no bad record because she had discipline for the nation’s funds.

Ms Lethoka said she felt motivated to do better than before even though the working environment was always challenging.

She is also the chairperson of the ministry’s Corruption Prevention Committee (CPC), which won the best performing committee.

Furthermore, she said teamwork has made them an outstanding committee and that they intend to continue fighting corruption. ENDS
