Education fundamental right

The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development Mr Moiseraele Goya says the government recognises that education is a public good and a fundamental right of every child.
Mr Goya who is also the Member of Parliament for Palapye was giving a key note address during the handover of pre-school learning resources by Diamond Educational Publishers at Lekgolobotlo Primary School in the Southern District on Friday.
Diamond Publishers adopted the school in 2013, the donation comprises 30 mattress, toys, books, tables, chairs, first aid kit and t-shirts worth P180 000.
Mr Goya said the ministry had since taken a bold decision to introduce reception classes within existing public primary schools with surplus classrooms.
He stated that the initiative could not be carried out without placing a heavy burden on the national treasury, adding that to ease that the ministry introduced Adopt A School Programme.
The assistant minister mentioned that the assistance would enable previously un-served eligible children in Lekgolobotlo to access pre-school education.
“I strongly believe that increased participation at pre-school level will go a long way in addressing the challenge of under achievement presently characterizing our public schools’’, he said.
For her part, the publishing director, Ms Violet Ngongola said they were guided in the gesture by the principle that the more they gave the more they would prosper as a company.
She said they were committed to assisting in education to produce future leaders. ENDS
