GU supporters take leadership to court

A case in which some Gaborone United supporters are challenging the legitimacy of the clubs chairperson Okaile Rapula and the secretary City Senne will be heard at the high court before Justice Leatile Dambe on September 9.
Diole Moletedi and other nine Gaborone United supporters claim that during the election of the duo, the club constitution article 17.3 was trampled upon. The article sates that “in order for any member to qualify to hold a position in the executive committee, the member should have the support of 10 members and must be a member of the club for a continuous two years prior to the date of the nomination.”
The concerned members also want the court to declare the clubs Annual General Meeting(AGM) which was held in July to be null and void because the clubs constitution article 15.1 which states that two-thirds of the registered members at the AGM shall constitute a quorum was violated.
The concerned party defence lawyer Uyapo Ndadi told the high court on Monday that the matter was ripe for argument.
He proposed to the court that a date should be set to deal and argue preliminary points and the merits of the case once.
He told the court that the case was narrow given that it would be arguing whether the general membership had the powers to pass the quorum.
The defence attorney, Lore Morapedi said he does not have any objection adding that also the applicants have brought an invalid application before the high court. Therefore he pleased with the high court to hear the matter in the earliest time so as to deal and close the matter. ENDS
