Rolling Boys secure playoffs spot

25 Apr 2016

Rolling Boys secured a place in the Premier League promotional playoffs after a 0-0 draw with Notwane in the Debswana First Division South league match played at Lesirane ground on Saturday.

The result ensured that Boys finished the season in second position with 40 points.

They will now face northern region runners-up Ecco City Greens in a two-legged playoffs for a berth in the beMOBILE Premiership next season.

Black Forest and Mahalapye Hotspurs have already secured promotion as champions of the southern and northern regions respectively.

Boys and Notwane failed to play good football in a dull match on Saturday.

Notwane created the first chance on the match in the fifth minute but Thabang Watlala shot over the bar after being released by Ronald Lekoko.

A minute later, Kago Nfila drilled Rolling Boys’ free-kick wide. Despite the frenetic start, goalkeepers had little trouble as the two teams struggled to create scoring opportunities.

Boys almost stole victory in the dying minutes when substitute Denis Kaelo beat Notwane goalkeeper, Karabo Gaolebale but the ball was cleared off the line by Kereng Mpetang.

Boys assistant coach, Webster Kurwaisimba said in an interview that his team was over-confident and thus failed to play their best game.

Kurwaisimba thus predicted tough matches against Ecco in the playoffs, saying “it is only a matter of two games. The best thing we need to do is put our heads down and concentrate hundred per cent and it will take us through.”

Meanwhile, Mochudi Rovers finished the season in third position with 39 points after beating Black Forest 1-0 in Mmankgodi, while Mogoditshane Fighters beat Tsabong Black Rangers 2-1.  ENDS
