Gweta hospital helps less fortunate
25 Apr 2016
Gweta Primary Hospital’s advisory board, staff and the local community embarked on a 15 kilometre sponsored walk over the weekend to raise funds to build a house for one of the disadvantaged members of the community.
Giving an overview of their mission, the hospital advisory board chairperson Mr Royal Mathumo said at the start of the walk on Saturday that they decided during their meetings to assist someone in need of shelter within the community they serve as a hospital. As a result, all the 10 members of the board are expected to contribute towards the construction of the envisaged house, he said, adding that they had been inspired by what others were doing in that regard throughout the country.
“Since the President’s plea for Batswana to help government house needy community members, they have responded positively across the country to help others who cannot do it for themselves,” the board leader said.
Giving shelter to those who need it enhanced and restored their dignity thereby giving them hope in life, he pointed out.
He therefore appreciated the community of Gweta and its catchment areas for having followed the same trend followed by other Batswana noting that it was a sign of unity and inspiration to others.
The Member of Parliament for Nata/Gweta Mr Polson Majaga said cooperation was one the important pillars for success, adding that often certain good intentions did not succeed because of lack of cooperation.
He implored the people of Gweta to continue with their spirit of kindness because they could only succeed if they were strongly united with the local public servants.
The hospital nursing superintendent Mr Isaac Seledi, also called for support and cooperation for the success of the project.
He added that with the unity they had shown, it would be possible for them to be able to build a house for someone on an annual basis, adding that their catchment area was wide enough to make it possible to raise enough funds for many more houses.
In their efforts to cut down the cost of construction, they have made a request to Gweta Brigade to engage their students to build the house which they were hopeful will be starting soon. ENDS
