The Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) four-team ladies T20 mini-league will kick-off with two matches this weekend.
The matches will be played simultaneously at BCA Oval tomorrow morning, with Southern Rocks facing Central Deltas at Oval A and Northern Deserts playing against Western Sands at Oval B. Matches will commence at 930am.
The two-week competition ends on May 1. The publicity secretary of BCA Sumod Damodar has explained that the competition is one of initiatives by the association to spread the game of cricket among girls and women.
Damodar added that the competition will be used by BCA development coaches to identify potential players to represent the country at the annual four nations’ tournament hosted in Botswana in August as well as a similar tournament in Namibia in December.
“The teams will constitute players from the U13 to senior level, from their respective regions and representation at this stage will be from areas such as, Selebi Phikwe, Francistown, Gaborone, Mochudi, Thamaga, Sojwe and Molepolole, just to name a few,” Damodar said.
Meanwhile, the final of the Gaborone T20 Blast Tournament will be held tomorrow at 7pm. The six-team competition has been organised by the Gaborone Cricket Club.
It started in a round-robin format before Broadhurst Blasters, Notwane Ninjas, Phakalane Panthers, and Gaborone West Gladiators qualified for the knockout stage. ENDS
