Public officers worthy of applause

20 Apr 2016

Kgosi Gaofenngwe Bome of Kanye has applauded public officers for their contribution to the development of the nation.Kgosi Bome, who was speaking during the Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA) public service day Tuesday, said he was particularly happy that the public service had grown with a nation which was counted among the poorest in Sub Saharan Africa at Independence, to a middle income economy and a beacon of democracy both regionally and internationally.

He said public officers were the mainstay of the economy thus encouraged them to carry the aspirations of the nation beyond the 50 years of Independence.Another speaker at the event and KAA Sub Council chairperson Mr Tlhomamo Dibeela explained that this year’s national public service day celebrations would be held in a bottom-up approach.

He said the celebrations were scheduled to start from the districts and culminate into a national event later this year with a view to celebrate 50 years of service to the nation.Mr Dibeela also reiterated that public officers deserved a pat on the back for the service they rendereed, with limited resources when the nation gained Independence in 1966.

“I hear there was a sign post at the Ramatlabama border post that read thus: ‘beware of the dust, there is a tractor pulling dust’ when we started in 1966. But now we have over 10 000 roads with tarmac, thanks to your contribution,” he said. However, Mr Dibeela advised public officers to carry themselves in a manner that put government of the day in a good light at all times.

He also challenged officers within the KAA management area to lead by example because they were the face of the district. Mr Dibeela furthermore applauded the officers for working amicably with stakeholders like the political representatives in the area in an effort to improve the lives of Batswana.

The Kanye Seventh Day Adventist Hospital matron Ms Keabitsa Ramantele in her remarks encouraged officers to be innovative when faced with work related challenges. Ms Ramantele further said officers should learn to take criticism in a positive manner.

The event also saw some officers who set themselves apart in terms of performance in the past year, receive awards. The awards categories included long service, most promising leader and employee of the year. Mr Tshepo Kgotla, a switchboard operator with the department of Consumers Affairs emerged the employee of the year. ENDS
