Kaira leaves Competition Authority

The founding chief executive officer of the Competition Authority, Mr Thula Kaira is leaving after completing his five year tour of duty.

Speaking during his last meeting with the media, Mr Kaira said he feels content with his delivery on his duty of establishing the authority and training staff.

He said it was time to leave for other business adventures after setting strategic objectives and strategies to ensure that the Competition Authority becomes a result-oriented business facilitator.

Mr Kaira revealed that his management team has managed to achieve a lot, including the authority’s investigative independence and assurance of the business community of the highest level of transparency, accountability and due process in all dealings.

He revealed that the authority completed the Competition Regulations and Operationalisation Act in October 14, 2011.

Mr Kaira also highlighted that the authority has secured membership of the International Competition Network which boasts membership of 123 competition authorities in the world.

He stated that he has seen the authority moving from a three roomed office to a fully equipped office with furniture and equipment.

He said they have facilitated choice for the consumer. He encouraged the staff that he leaves to continue working hard. He also called for accountability in the use of public funds.

Mr Kaira, who elected not to ask for a renewal of his contract, introduced the acting CEO of the authority, Ms Tebelelo Pule. ENDS
