Lobatse abbatoir closes indefinitely

17 Apr 2016

Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) in Lobatse has been closed indefinitely pending the assessment of the buffalo incursion at Ga-Mmapekanyane near Kanye.

Mr Ralotsia told residents that a specimen has been taken to Botswana Vaccine Institute laboratories to test if the buffalo was harbouring the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), noting that the results would take time as samples had to go through processes for accuracy.

He advised residents to cooperate with authorities in fighting and lessening the possible harm that could be caused by circumstances arising from the buffalo incursion.

He warned that if the situation was treated lightly, it could have precarious implications to the economy.

On other issues, Mr Ralotsia encouraged residents to prepare for BOT50 as the country’s golden jubilee marks a special occassion in the country’s history.

He said it was not an easy road to reach 50 and that some people did not expect that the country would make it.

“In other countries there is no peace and people hate each other, but Botswana is a blessed nation and the major task that Batswana should do is to continue praying that God should sanctify the country with peace and harmony,” he said.

He said different heads of state of SADC countries have been invited to attend the occassion.

He encouraged residents to consider an assortment of activities that would electrify the event.

On education, Mr Ralotsia challenged parents to maintain a harmonious working relationship with school authorities to improve performance. ENDS
