Salba Cash and Carry last week donated sports equipment to Thamaga Red Classics U-15 team.
Speaking at a ceremony to hand over the donation, Salba Cash and Carry managing director, Badaruddoza Mohammed said it is important to groom players from a tender age in order to produce good quality sport professionals.
For his part, former Zebras player, Vincent Phiri, who also drills Gaborone United’s U-17 team, encouraged the youngsters to work hard.
He said sport inculcates discipline as it keeps the youth away from social vices.
He said that it is important for the youth to take their school work seriously so as to have something to fall on when their sporting career fails.
Phiri encouraged parents to release their children for training. He said it is important for parents to be fully involved in the growth of their children, both academically and in extra curricular activities.
He said parents should make it a habit to visit the field to see how their children are doing and getting feedback from their trainers.
For his part, Thamaga Red Classics coach, Seabe Ramoruswana expressed gratitude over the donation, stating that it will change a lot of young boys’ lives.
He emphasised that lack of equipment is a major hindrance in the development of football in villages.
Ramoruswana said the reason Thamaga does not have any team playing in the premier league is lack of youth development owing to lack of equipment.
Kweneng Football Region secretary, Tebogo Kamati stated that they decided to help Thamaga Red Classics to make it into the Greater Gaborone Development League. He said they will continue to identify new talent and nurture it. ENDS
