BOPA provides coverage
10 Apr 2016
Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele says Botswana Press Agency (BOPA) has been providing news coverage to events and activities, including council sessions, in the South East District.
Mr Makgalemele said during the 2015/16 plan period, BOPA received 149 invitations for news coverage out of which 125 (84 per cent) were honoured. He said it was not possible to cover all events due to resource constraints.
However, the assistant minister said news articles and photographs published in the DailyNews exceeded 149 because some events produced more than one story or photograph.
He also said reporters often wrote independent stories promoting government programmes and initiatives in the district.
He said the last full council session that ran from February 22 to March 02, 2016 was covered and five stories published in the DailyNews.
Ramotswa MP, Mr Samuel Rantuana had wanted to know why BOPA never reported any activities taking place in the South East District including council proceedings. Ends
