Ministry rewards performing educationists
07 Apr 2016
Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraela Goya, says his ministry rewards high performing headmasters and teachers through numerous mechanisms, which include annual teacher day models and national recognition.
When answering a question in Parliament on Wednesday, Mr Goya said other mechanisms included annual ministry excellence awards.
Other motivations were annual public service day awards that also included a medal and financial rewards as well as individual letters to schools from the minister acknowledging and congratulating the school and staff on performance.
Mr Goya added that promotions to higher posts of responsibility were premised on performance of officers in their current posts and their performance at interview.
He said officers who would have delivered were more likely to do well and progress within the system.
The assistant minister also highlighted that the incentives in place were not exhaustive and could always be augmented and improved upon along with other incentives for officers depending on budgetary capabilities.
Mr Goya was answering a question from the Member of Parliament for Gaborone North Mr Haskins Nkaigwa regarding incentives for high performing headmasters and teachers and head teachers in high performing schools.
Mr Nkaigwa had also asked the minister if she was happy about the incentives. Ends
