Khama welcomes India envoy

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama, yesterday, received letters of credence from the High Commissioner of India, Dr Ketan Shukla.
Dr Shukla said in an interview that this is a historical year for Botswana in that the nation celebrates 50 years of independence, adding that this is also important for India as they established relations with Botswana 50 years ago.
The high commissioner said President Khama had done well in conserving tourism and natural resources.
Botswana, Dr Shukla said, had an opportunity to tap into solar energy and could learn from India on this aspect as it had established solar energy stations.
He further indicated that nature generated opportunities and boosted economy adding that Botswana was lucky to be endowed with diamonds.
The high commissioner said Botswana could create employment when the diamond training centre was complete so that diamond cutting and polishing could be done in the country to create employment for Batswana.
Dr Shukla said India produced high quality leather products that Botswana could emulate.
He said Botswana could avail slots for foreign direct investment in order for India to bring expertise in leather and diamond processing to boost human resource development.
He said India could learn a lot from Botswana in tourism and education.
Dr Shukla said India had a good natural disaster management agency, adding that the two countries could strike bilateral relationships and sign Memorandum of Agreement so that Indians could train Batswana in disaster management. Ends
