Hospital boilers to be replaced

05 Apr 2016

The Ministry of Health is in the process of a phased replacement of hot water boilers at Masunga Primary Hospital this financial year.Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Alfred Madigele told Parliament on Monday that the hospital had three boilers which were installed at the time when the facility was constructed and as such were very old.He said currently one out of the three was working with the other two working intermittently due to age.

Dr Madigele also said the cold room at the hospital was currently being attended to after the previous contractor who was engaged to repair it had failed to do so; the ministry has since engaged another contractor who should be onsite soon.

On another issue, the facility administrators have been advised to place an order for oxygen and related devises which are available at Central Medical Stores.Tati West MP, Mr Biggie Butale had asked if the Minister of Health was aware that the hot water boilers at Masunga Primary Hospital were old and that 80 per cent of them were out of service despite being serviced many times; if so, what action was being taken to solve this potential problem as winter approached. He has also asked if the minister was aware that cold rooms at the said hospital had been down for some time and that oxygen tanks and other small medical gadgets were in short supply. Ends
