The buildings at Gaborone International Financial Park occupied by the Registrar of Companies, Auditor General, Criminal Investigation Department, and Department of Wildlife and National Parks were bought by government in 2005 and 2006.
The Minister of Lands and Housing Mr Prince Maele explained this in Parliament on Monday when responding to a question from Gabane-Mmankgodi MP Major General Pius Mokgware.Mr Maele stated that the buildings were acquired by government at a combined sum of P93.9 million and were inspected by the Department of Buildings and Engineering Services prior to their purchase. However, he said the buildings had structural defects which were previously attended to.
“The latent defects have since emerged on all the four properties and government is currently working on a plan to address the challenges posed by these building,” the minister assured.Major General Mokgware had asked the minister to state whether the buildings belonged to government, and what was being done to solve the problem of structural defects on them.
