Molao urges men to complement women

03 Apr 2016

The Member of Parliament for Shashe West, Mr Fidelis Molao says men should complement women so that they can be economically stable on their own.

He said this at the Attorney General’s Chambers International Women’s Day celebrations on Thursday at Kuminda Farm near Marobela.

Mr Molao, who is also Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, noted that women were struggling economically and that some of them depend on men for financial support.

He urged men not to brag about their capabilities but to complement women and help them earn financial independence.

In addition, Mr Molao noted that the government has amended many policies aimed at gender equality so that there was no difference between people particularly in terms of men and women, adding that the government also came up with different initiatives aimed at uplifting the lives of women.

He noted that with women being economically stable, it would help uplift their self-esteem.

He noted that with high self- esteem they would be motivated to work for themselves to complement what they get from their spouses or partners.

He said financial support given to women was often attached to something.

He appealed to women to learn from other women’s mistakes, who had fallen prey to dirty tricks played on them.

Welcoming guests, Attorney General (AG), Dr Athaliah Molokomme said women exist to help and work together as partners with men.

She said that should be the principle of men and women instead of what society perceives to be right by having women classified to be under men, she said.

Dr Molokomme highlighted that as the AG they conduct wellness activities as a form of harmonising the working relationship between staff members across the board, adding that they also aim at promoting team building.

She stated that team building strengthens and promotes cohesion among staff, and that through their wellness they always sensitise their staff about issues of gender based violence in the workplace and at their respective homes. Ends
