Bobonong Village or town

31 Mar 2016

Bobonong village can better be called a town as it has all the requirements  of a town. The village which is 80 kilometers east of Selibe Phikwe has a tarred road, drainage system, electricity, eight primary schools, three junior schools, one senior secondary school and a brigade that brings it to the status of a town, the senior administration officer at the office of Member of Parliament for Bobonong, Mr Monkemedi Dingalo has said in an interview.

Mr Dingalo said the village also has government offices which include a Rural Administration Centre, Magistrates office, a primary hospital, police station, post office, library and a town centre, Barclays and First National Bank automated teller machines and a large shopping complex which houses big retail stores such as Choppies Supermarket.

With a vision of development, the village elders, the Member of Parliament, councillors and Village Development Committee members planned the village to be a town model with its infrastructure and plots solely designed in the form of a town, he continued.

Mr Dingalo added that currently developments like sealing of internal roads, water distribution channels have started booming in the area. He also said the village is also about to start getting water from Thune Dam as the construction of the water pipe line that carries water from the dam to Bobonong has commenced.

He added that Bobonong Cooperative Society is about to start construction of a multimillion mall as it has been allocated a space near Bobonong mall.
Joe electrical contractors (PTY) LTD is constructing a P10 million shopping complex in the village.

For her part, public relations officer for Bobirwa Sub- district Council Ms Beauty Morobise said Bobonong has now assumed a unique character and this has a lot to do with its proximity to Selibe Phikwe.

The influx of people from different villages of Bobirwa has probably brought the facts and the willingness of residents to sell their plots to spark up activities like supermarkets, guest houses and other businesses, she emphasised. ENDS
