Police residents lower crime rates
31 Mar 2016
Molepolole Police Station Commander Superintendent Charles Mbengwa has commended the residents of Molepolole for the decline in the crime rate that has been recorded during the Easter holidays.
During an interview with BOPA, Superintendent Mbengwa said in comparison to the past holidays, Molepolole has recorded only two murder cases of a middle aged man who was murdered after being involved in a group fight at Phuthadikobo ward and of a 27 year old man murdered after a fight with another at Lekgwapheng ward.
He said investigations for both cases are still ongoing and that one suspect has been arrested. Furthermore, he said cases such as house breaking and burglary which are common when people are away have not been reported which shows that residents have taken heed of messages dispersed by the police adding that only one rape case was recorded.
Mbengwa said this also shows that people put into practice the `ntebela ke go lebele` programme and that the police were actively doing their duty during the holidays.
Regarding traffic offences, the police chief said they recorded a total of 258 cases out of which some were charged for driving without a license, failure to produce a licence, drunken driving and only 22 charged for over speeding.
He also said 216 people were charged for drinking at non-drinking spots and only two bar owners were charged for operating earlier than the stipulated times and the other two for exceeding the scheduled times.
He encouraged Molepolole residents to keep up the good spirit of abiding by the stipulated rules adding that it is encouraging that such a big village could record a few offences. BOPA
