30 Mar 2016

Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC)received a total of 2 531 Youth Development Fund (YDF) applications for the financial year 2015/16 and 2 045 for the financial year 2014/15, while in 2013/14, the ministry received 2 220 YDF applications.

Responding to question in Parliament , MYSC minister Mr Thapelo Olopeng said for the period 2013 to 2015, a total of 40 applications were successful in Selebi Phikwe West, while 53 were successful in Selebi Phikwe in general.

He said during the same period, 18 applications were unsuccessful in Selebi Phikwe West and 30 in Selebi Phikwe in general.

Mr Olopeng said in Selebi Phikwe West constituency, 38 projects were still operational while a total of 49 projects in Selebi Phikwe in general were still in business, adding that during the same period, six projects collapsed.

He said they collapsed due to different reasons that included high rental charges, lack of commitment by beneficiary, insufficient market and shortage of operational space.

MP for Selebi Phikwe West Mr Dithapelo Koorapetse had asked the minister to state the number of applications for YDF for the year 2013, 2014 and 2015 and those that were successful in Selebi Phikwe West and Selebi Phikwe in general.

Mr Koorapetse had also wanted the minister to state the projects that were fully functional in those areas including those that had collapsed. ENDS
