Private investigation law yet to effect
30 Mar 2016
The Minister of Defence Justice and Security , Mr Shaw Kgathi says currently there are no registered private investigation companies, security companies and other companies providing private investigation services as the law that is currently in use does not provide for private investigation.
However, he said the new Private Security Services Act 2014, which has not yet come into effect, provides for private investigation services, adding that the law would commence once the drafting of the regulations have been completed and the Private Security Services Board established.
He said the new act did not provide companies with access to wiretapping equipment.
Mr Kgathi was responding to a Parliamentary question in which the Member of Parliament for Selibe Phikwe, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse wanted to know if there was any registered private investigation companies, security companies providing private investigation services and if so, the minister to state the law that gives authority of the practice, and if these companies have access to wiretapping.
