29 Mar 2016

The Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, has implored Batswana to help each other during trying times.

Speaking during Batlang Morena Apostolic Church’s house handover ceremony in Lotlhakane West, Mr Masisi said there was need for Batswana to help each other during challenging times; citing the setswana idiom that; fifing go tshwaranwa ka kobo.

The church built a two bed-roomed house to the tune of P98 000 for a disadvantaged family in the village. The church also fitted the kitchen, bought two beds worth P3 600, grocery worth P1 600 and bed covers for the family.
Mr Masisi, Moshupa-Manyana MP, said people should respond to challenges on time to ensure that those in need were helped within a reasonable time.

He challenged other churches to follow suit, adding that, under the leadership of Archbishop Selebatso Modiakgotla, Batlang Morena deserved to be showered with praises for contributing a lot in human development.

He said Moshupa Sub-council should assess the family as soon as possible and help the beneficiary appropriately, adding that relevant authorities must expedite service delivery so that people could benefit from government programmes in time.

He said the church was playing an active role in fighting poverty thereby responding to the national leadership’s calls for people to lend a helping hand, particularly the president’s housing appeal.
When giving an overview of the project, Archbishop Modiakgotla said the church had a role to play in ensuring that they met the needs of the disadvantaged.

He said there was nothing impossible to be compassionate, emphasising that the church felt sympathetic for the beneficiary and found it fit to build a house for her.
The archbishop thanked a neighbour for providing water during construction of the house noting that such people were needed in the community.

He therefore implored the residents to continue helping the family. Meanwhile, Moshupa Sub-district councillors pledged to assist the family connect a standpipe before end of April.

The sub-council chairperson, Mr Benjamin Mogodi, said the council would assist the family with food ration and thanked fellow councillors for playing an active role in community development projects.
He thanked the church for their noble gesture and all who participated to ensure success of the event.
