Rehabilitation of drainage structures commences
29 Mar 2016
The rehabilitation of drainage structures at Phase 4/Mekoro ward in Selebi Phikwe will commence in April.
The project came about after the realisation that the drainage structures that were part of the 39.3km road network at Mekoro ward were not done properly and too steep for vehicles to pass through.
During the groundbreaking ceremony to mark the commencement of the project, Selebi Phikwe deputy town clerk, Mr Shadreck Selelo said the government decided to rehabilitate the drainage structures and rectify them so that vehicles could pass through.
He said the project cost stood at P8.8 million, noting that the project, which entails fixing 102 drifts and 32 culverts around Mekoro ward, was expected to take nine months.
He highlighted that a citizen owned company, Tripple Clear Services, has been given the tender to carry out the project which was funded by the Ministry of Lands and Housing.
Meanwhile, the project engineer, Mr Isaac Legase said they would be looking at the functional approach of the drifts and culverts and fixing them to the desired specification. He said as vehicles could not pass through they had also put up sign boards along the road to warn road users about the culverts and drifts ahead.
Meanwhile, the managing director of Tripple Clear Services, Mr Moeteledi Billy said his organisation would be working hand in hand with the town council until the project was complete. He added that the project would be an opportunity for his organisation to showcase their knowledge, talent, skills and expertise in the construction and engineering field.
He also added that they have qualified project managers and experienced labourers to carry out the job.
For his part, the mayor of Selebi Phikwe, Mr Amogelang Mojuta who also performed the groundbreaking to mark the commencement of the project, said the project demonstrates that the government was committed to bringing developments and improving the lives of its citizen. He noted that the street lights at Mekoro ward started operating recently, saying it was a significant sign of development in the area. Ends
