Sowa Township faces shortage of land

23 Mar 2016

The Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele has informed Parliament that there are concerns of shortage of land and serviced plots in Sowa Township.

He said the leadership of Sowa Township paid him a visit and presented their concerns.

Mr Maele said he visited the area on February 28, adding that his ministry does not have any provision through the Economic Stimulus Programme to provide land servicing in Sowa Township.

“We are currently servicing plots in Sowa Township which will yield 202 plots in SHHA Block 3 lay out,” he added.

The minister further said he was unable to confirm that shortage of land has affected the growth of Sowa Town due to delayed allocation because there had not been enough responses to previous advertisement for plots.

Mr Maele said the Sowa Township council had been advised to liaise with the ministry to identify ways and means of stimulating developments in their township.

The MP for Nata-Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga had asked the minister if he was aware that Sowa Township has serious shortage of land and serviced plot.

Mr Majaga also wanted the minister to state if the ESP would address the situation, and if land shortage in Sowa has affected the growth of the town due to delays in land allocation. Ends
