Ministry addresses overstays
23 Mar 2016
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Developmet, Mr Frans van der Westhuizen says he is aware that there are some employees who has overstayed at the Sowa Town Council.
He said the ministry was continuously addressing overstays in all 16 district councils, and that it involved a total establishment of over 18 000 employees.
He, however, said the transfer process was slow due to the consultative process which must be followed with each individual officer before such transfers were effected.
“Poor work ethics is a disciplinary matter which when observed is promptly addressed through existing instruments rather than transferring officers. Transfer is not a solution in this regard as it is merely a deferment of the negative behaviour,” he said.
The MP for Nata-Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga had asked the minister if he was aware that most of Sowa Town Council staff have overstayed and whether lack of development in the town and poor work ethics in the council were not caused by these officers who worked for many years in the same council. Ends
