WUC service irkes Maun residents
10 May 2013
Residents of Disaneng ward in Maun have complained about water, barely a month after the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) took over the provision of the commodity from the Department of Water Affairs in April this year.
The residents raised the complaint during a kgotla meeting addressed by the North West District Council (NWDC) chairperson, Mr Latlhang Molonda recently.
Mr Isaac Molapisi revealed that there no longer drink potable water like before since WUC took over the service.
Another resident, Ms Leole Letso said WUC fails to meet customer needs.
Responding to the complaints, the water works superintendent, Mr Michael Sepepe admitted a supply of untreated water.
Currently, he said, the department is using only two boreholes they inherited from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP).
Mr Sepepe said they are doing their best to meet customer demands and explained that some impurities found in water may be caused by excess pumping of water from underground.
He however promised the residents that the problem would be dealt with in earnest and that there was an ongoing water project meant to address the challenge.
Maun is one of the villages hit by excess water shortage, mainly attributed to the breaking down of boreholes and water pipes, as well as floods in the area.
Currently water bowsers are used in some parts of the village. ENDS
