Office of the President donates to Camphill

The Office of the President, on March 18, donated food hampers, 50 blankets and four wheelchairs to Camphill Community Trust in Otse in the South East District. 

Donations were part of the Office of the President’s monthly community service day initiative where the office volunteered and engaged in various activities to help communities. 

Speaking at the event, Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele explained that President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama introduced the initiative to afford government departments to do voluntary work for their communities. 

Mr Makgalemele said the Office of the President highly regarded the initiative hence the monthly activities in different communities.  He said some of the community voluntary works included refurbishing dilapidated structures, gardening assistance, among others. 

The assistant minister appreciated challenges people with disabilities were faced with which included delays in assessing them before being enrolled on some government programmes. 

Further, Mr Makgalemele said government was in the process reviewing its policy on care for people living with disabilities.  Thiis is intended to improve support systems and care for those living with disabilities. 

Camphill Community Trust director, Mr Andreas Groth appreciated support from the Office of the President, saying donations would go a long way in helping the Trust. 

Camphill is a non-governmental organisation which serves children with severe learning difficulties.

It runs Rankoromane  and Legodimo schools for children with disabilities. Ends
