Seven posts filled at Khwee hostels

20 Mar 2016

The Khwee Remote Area Development Programme students’ hostels manpower establishment has eight posts for hostel cooks and seven are filled, leaving one vacancy.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans van de Westhuizen, said the other nine posts were for caretakers, one matron, one relief hostel worker and one driver and that all were filled.

He said interviews for the vacant post of hostel cook were held on February 19, 2016 and that a prospective candidate has been identified. He said an offer letter was written on February 2016, and that the Central District Council was still awaiting response from the candidate.

“Currently, council is experiencing some challenges with the entire hostel sewerage drainage system connecting the ablution facilities and the situation will be addressed during the 2016/17 financial year.

Mr Van Der Westhuizen further told Parliament  that the cyclic hostel maintenance was done during the financial year 2011/12. However, routine and minor maintenance of the hostel was done using the council crew and handy men system, as and when the need arises, he said.

Currently, the kitchen and its equipment were in good condition except for the wall tiles which need attention, and that these would be attended to by the council maintenance crew during the 2016/17 fiscal year. On the other hand, he said hostel attendants report for duty at 4.30 am.

MP Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the assistant minister to appraise Parliament on the status of the Khwee RADP student hostels particularly on staffing, ablution and toilets, general maintenance and kitchen. He also wanted to know the time the kitchen attendants report for duty. Ends
