The construction of an additional road along the old Tonota/Gaborone road which passes by the Marang Cresta Hotel and Tati River Lodge heading southwards was not included in the current development plan (DPP 10) nor was it proposed for NDP 11 due to budgetary constraints.

Answering a question in Parliament , the Minister of Transport and Communications Mr Tshenolo Mabeo said it must however be noted that the upgrading of the ongoing Tonota-Francistown road to dual carriageway once completed will significantly reduce traffic congestion along the A1 Road between Tonota and Francistown.

Furthermore, the completion of the Thapama interchange will also facilitate smooth flow of traffic within the City of Francistown, he said.

MP for Francistown East Mr Buti Billy had asked the minister to state if he will consider constructing an additional road along old Tonota/Gaborone road which passes by the Marang Cresta Hotel and Tati River Lodge heading southwards, since such would significantly reduce traffic along A1 Road between Tonota and Francistown.
