Shumba spearheads anti-crime

In an endeavour to help fight crime in their village, Tobane villagers will launch anti-crime clusters on May 30.
An initiative spearheaded by Setswana traditional musician Shumba Ratshega, who is also the project ambassador, will educate youth on the dangers of crime and ways of creating better living for themselves.
In an interview, the Tobane born Ratshega said this was an important day which would attract village dignitaries among them Kgosi and Selebi Phikwe police station commander who would address the youth.
He said there was a shortage of programmes in the village to keep young people busy, resulting in youth engaging in criminal activities.
“Our village is next to the border which results in some youth from Tobane jumping the fence to South Africa to engage in illegal acts,” he said.
The musician indicated that anti criminal clusters have been in existence in their village but residents never appreciated them, adding that this would be a chance to explain to residents the importance of such clusters.
“We want youth to come together and start social groups so that they stay away from crime, ” he highlighted.
Ratshega also said he would use his social status as a singer to inspire and motivate young people who look up to him to stay away from negative activities.
The musician called on elders to join them on the day so as to encourage more young people to attend the event.
He said parents play a big role in raising children and that lack of proper upbringing could result in delinquent youth.
“This is a way of me giving back to the society that brought me up to become the well-known musician that I am today,” he noted. ENDS
