Mmankgodi Gabane to get water tanks

09 Mar 2016

Due to the current drought situation and water shortages, both Gabane and Mmankgodi villages, together with other areas in the Greater Gaborone do experience water supply interruptions from time to time.

The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila said this when responding to a question in Parliament from Gabane/Mmankgodi MP, Major Gen. Pius Mokgware.

During such interruptions, Mr Mokaila said the recovery period for high lying areas was prolonged.

He explained that whenever water supply was restored following any interruption, low lying areas benefited first and only after they were saturated does the water reach high areas.

To mitigate this situation, the Minister said the Water Utilities Corporation would place water tanks in strategic spots in the affected areas. “Two water tanks will be provided for Mmankgodi and three for Gabane by March 31, 2016.

These tanks will be bowsed to ensure that residents of high areas have water like the rest of the village,” he added. Major Gen. Mokgware wanted to know if Mr Mokaila was aware that some locations in Gabane on the upper places along then Gabane Hill and some places in Mmankgodi had been without water for over six months now due to their altitude.

The concerned MP also wanted to know if Mr Mokaila would consider placing water tanks in some selected points where people could be supplied with water. Ends
