Orange Botswana appoints Mbayi
08 Mar 2016
In its continued efforts to localise executive positions, Orange Botswana has announced the appointment of Mr Gobe Mbayi as the new chief technical and information officer (CTIO).
Mr Mbayi, 36, has just returned from a eight month stay in France where he served as the subscriber data management strategy country manager.
He takes over from French national, Mr Michel Levet, who has been at the helm for the past four years.
A press release from Orange says Mr Mbayi is a qualified telecommunications engineer who holds a bachelor of science in telecommunications engineering from the University of Texas, Dallas, USA, as well as a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Botswana.
In addition to the qualifications, he brings to the table over 10 years of experience in the engineering field.
He first joined Orange Botswana in 2009 as a core network manager. Mr Mbayi is a true shining example of how hard work and dedication always finally pays off.
“It has taken me a little over five years at Orange Botswana to get where I am today. I started off as a core network manager.
I have proved myself and rose through the ranks steadily. In 2010, I was promoted to senior manager-business implementation and projects position, which I served for three years until 2013, following which I was appointed deputy CTIO - transformation.
All these positions prepared me for the role I am in today.
I always had my eyes set on the CTIO position, and through hard work, dedication and support from my team, my manager and colleagues I made it,” said Mr Mbayi.
As the CTIO, Mr Mbayi will be responsible for the daily operations of the Orange Botswana network, as well as driving the organisation’s technical strategy in delivering new and innovative products for its customers. ENDS
